Altium releases TASKING ARM Cortex-M embedded development tools

Altium (www.altium.com) — which specializes in smart system design automation, 3D PCB design and embedded software development — has released its TASKING VX-toolset for ARM Cortex-M for Mac OS X.

Traditionally embedded software development tools have been available exclusively for the Windows operating system and Altium has a long history in providing its TASKING cross compilers and debuggers for running on Windows, including its TASKING VX-toolset for ARM Cortex-M. With ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers becoming popular in broad market consumer applications, especially with wearable electronics and electronic systems that can be controlled from the iPhone, it is apparent that embedded software engineers want to use the Mac as their development platform, according to Harm-Andre Verhoef, product manager TASKING.

PowerSkin launches PoP'n battery packs for the iPhone 6 line

PowerSkin (www.Power-Skin.com) says its PoP’n battery packs now includes PoP’n 2 for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, available for only $69.99.

Utilizing patented suction adhering technology, the PoP’n 2 suctions onto the back of the iPhone for an integrated charging experience. It features a 4000 mAh battery and 2.1 amp charging.

QNAP Systems has released the TS-x31 series Turbo NAS for SOHO and home users. Powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, it provides a solution for file storage, sharing, and data backup coupled with a cloud-based, note-taking application and a range of multimedia functions.

Pioneer announces availability of Apple CarPlay

Pioneer Electronics is one of the first aftermarket manufacturers to support Apple CarPlay with the official release of a compatible firmware update for five 2014 NEX in-dash multimedia receivers, as well as the introduction of the CarPlay-compatible fourth generation AppRadio (SPH-DA120).

According to Apple, CarPlay is the “smarter, safer and more fun way” to use an iPhone in your car. It gives iPhone users a way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. Users can control CarPlay from the car’s native interface or just push-and-hold the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri without distraction, says Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing.

Pomfort introduces Silverstack 4

Pomfort (www.pomfort.com) has released an upgrade (version 4) to Silverstack, its media acquisition and data management tool for Mac OS X 10.8 or higher.

Version 4 speeds up all backup processes with a tuned copy engine, and the checksum verification type "xxhash." What's more it adds support for Sony F55 / F65 RAW files and enables checksum verified copy processes to LTO tapes via LTFS. Plustek ships PS 4080U scanner

Plustek Technology (www.plustek.com/usa) has begun shipment of the Plustek PS 4080U, a workgroup document scanner.

It features a scan speed of 40 pages per minute (80 images-per-minute in duplex mode), a 100-sheet feeder and a daily duty cycle of 4,000 pages per day. the Plustek PS 4080U is designed to be shared among a workgroup with applications requiring frequent scanning, says Robert Fuchs, Plustek marketing manager. 

The US$649 scanner is bundled with a suite of document management and OCR software. Its feeder enables pages sized from 2”x2.5” up to 8.5”x10” to be scanned without sorting.  A special long-paper mode enables scanning of non-standard sizes: contract and loan forms, EKGs, oil well logs and strip charts.

Vuzix's new OS provides compatibility between M100 smart...

Vuzix Corp. (www.vuzix.com), a supplier of Video Eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets, has announced that with the release of the OS 2.0 upgrade for the M100 Smart Glasses, compatibility with iOS devices is enabled and iPhone and iPad support is being prepared to ship.

Bombich Software (www.bombich.com) has released Carbon Copy Cloner 4, an upgrade to its bootable backup software for Mac OS X (10.8 and higher).

The upgrade features a completely redesigned interface, editing of scheduled tasks, task history, a menubar application, task chaining, a command-line application option and includes "hundreds" of improvements and fixes. ABI Research: ASUS, Lenovo, Amazon fight for tablet third place...

Apple and Samsung have led the market substantially since the inception of media tablets. However, the race for third is up for grabs and competition is heating up between Lenovo, Amazon, ASUS, and other emerging vendors, according to ABI Research (www.abiresearch.com).

The aggressive nature of the market and substantial increase in emerging vendors has created a stall for leaders in the market giving original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) the opportunity to close the gap between leaders and followers. According to ABI Research, emerging vendors are forecasted to experience a CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of 22.8% between 2014 and 2019.

With third place up for grabs, Lenovo is working to gain ground in the market, and in 2019 is expected to ship 21 million tablets, attaining 7.3% of the overall market. This forecasted momentum and growth would land it solidly in third place.

FacetCorp releases version 6 of FacetPhone

FacetCorp (http://www.facetcorp.com) has launched version 6 of FacetPhone, the business phone system that runs on Mac OS X. This release includes a mobile app, new call center functionality, enhanced reporting capabilities and computer telephony integration with more applications.

The mobile app is initially only available for iOS devices. It provides many of the unified communications capabilities that are in the FacetPhone computer user interface. These include a list of users showing their status and location, instant messaging, visual call control and visual voice mail management. QuartzCode is new code generator for Mac OS X

Wan Ahmad Lutfi has introduced QuartzCode (http://www.quartzcodeapp.com), a code generator tool for Mac OS X.

It's an animation tool that turns vector drawings and animation into Objective C code. With QuartzCode, developers and designers can create new or use existing assets and transform them into complex animations without writing code. MacWise is ready for OS X Yosemite

Carnation Software has released MacWise version 14.2.5, an update to its terminal emulation software for the Mac. The upgrade is compatible with the upcoming Mac OS X Yosemite.
