Apricorn announces Mac compatible Aegis Padlock Pro

Apricorn has released the Aegis Padlock Pro (http://www.apricorn.com/PadlockPro), the latest addition to the Apricorn suite of hardware encrypted portable drives. It's compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux systems.

Universal Audio announces 4-710D Four Channel 710 Mic Pre

Universal Audio (http://www.uaudio.com), a manufacturer of professional audio recording products, has announced a new addition to its line of premium analog recording hardware: the 4-710D Four-Channel “Twin-finity” Mic Preamp & DI with Dynamics.

At the core of the 4-710D are four channels of tone-blending “Twin-finity” mic preamps with true-bypass 1176-style compression, according to the folks at Universal Audio. Based on the original 710 Twin-Finity preamp, each of the four mic preamp channels allows for continuously variable tone between 100% tube and 100% solid-state.

Fabrix introduces Magic Sleeve for the iPad

Fabrix (http://www.fabrixcases.com) has introduced its new Magic Sleeve for the the iPad. It's an US$32.90, slot-in styled case built to the dimensions of the Apple device.

Instapaper coming to the iPad

Developer Marco Arment says his Instapaper service (http://www.instapaper.com/) for saving web content for later reading will be coming to the iPad.

Instapaper Pro will be a universal iPhone/iPad application. That means that you only have to buy Instapaper Pro once to have it on both devices, and the iPad edition will be available to all Pro purchasers at no additional charge when it’s released. The iPhone/iPod touch/iPad version "looks like Instapaper Pro, but bigger, and with slight interface tweaks and redesigns where appropriate," says Arment.

Currently, Instatpaper is available in a free, feature-limited version and an US$4.99 pro version. The app downloads text-only versions of web content and saves them to a user's free account for later reading on a variety of devices, including Macs, Kindles and the aforementioned Apple devices.

Random House not on board the iPad bandwagon yet

Advertisers gearing up iPad campaigns

Advertisers are gearing up to run campaigns on the iPad, reports "ClickZ" (http://www.clickz.com/3639886), a site that offers news and advice for the digital publisher.

Mobile ad platform AdMarvel has teamed with Gannett-owned rich media ad firm PointRoll to enable expandable and highly-interactive ads on the iPad. Gannett's "USA Today," an AdMarvel publisher, is among the sites that will launch on the iPad with ads served up by the partners, according to Max Mead, VP of business development at PointRoll.

When the iPad officially becomes available, PointRoll will launch ads for "an automaker, a large retailer, a large CPG conglomerate, and a pretty large hotel chain," he told "ClickZ," but declined to name the advertisers. Kobo expands platform with support for dedicated eReaders

Kobo (http://www.KoboeReader.com), a global eBook retailer, has announced support for dedicated eReaders with a new application available through its “Powered by Kobo” partner program for hardware manufacturers and retailers.

Kobo’s application provides a eReading experience and storefront and will be embedded in leading eReaders launching in 2010. The company today also unveiled its Kobo eReader, a dedicated eReading device showcasing its new application.

The launch of the Kobo eReader application marks a first in this emerging market -- standard software available for hardware partners worldwide, according to Michael Serbinis, CEO of Kobo. Eye-Fi rolls out new wireless memory cards

Eye-Fi (http://www.eye.fi) has unveiled new wireless memory cards that deliver the next generation Eye-Fi experience of the Eye-Fi Pro X2.  The “X2” family of Eye-Fi cards have faster-than-ever wireless photo and video uploads, improved performance, and "virtually endless" storage capacity with Endless Memory mode, according to Eye-Fi CEO Jef Holove.

The new product line-up is available today starting at US$49.99. The Eye-Fi Connect X2 and Explore X2 join the Pro X2 as Eye-Fi’s new family of products, each with Class 6 performance, and 802.11n radio for faster uploads.

Workman Publishing bringing titles to the iPad

Workman Publishing Company, responsible for the “What to Expect” series, novels like “Water for Elephants” and the Silver Palate cookbooks, also signed a deal with Apple for ebooks on the iPad, reports "The New York Times" (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/23/business/media/23perseus.html).

The iPad will come with an iBookstore app. will feature books from major and independent publishers. The free iBooks app lets you buy books from the iBookstore. Once you’ve bought a book, it’s displayed on your Bookshelf. Just tap it to start reading.

Publishers have "provisionally welcomed Apple’s entry into the market because Apple is allowing them to set consumer prices, within limits. Publishers have had no control over prices at Amazon, which has generally sold new releases and best sellers for $9.99," says "The Times."

Simple Help Editor gets maintenance update

The PandaWare Company has updated Simple Help Editor, its cross-platform help authoring application, to version 4.1.1. Mac and Windows users can use Simple Help Editor to create software help systems that display in Apple Help Viewer, Windows' HTML Help viewer, a Web browser, or in a proprietary help window (for applications created with Real Software's REALbasic).

The new version is a maintenance release with some bug fixes. Simple Help Editor allows creating platform-specific Help systems for display in Apple Help Viewer, Microsoft Windows' HTML Help viewer, and Web browsers.
