Back-to-school Mac sales outgrew Windows PCs sales
Back-to-school Mac sales outgrew Windows PCs this year, even though Apple didn't offer a free iPod touch and discontinued its education-focused white MacBook, says "AppleInsider." In talking about the back-to-school buying season, Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis with NPD Group, told "AppleInsider"that Apple's year-over-year growth seen this summer was aided by weak comparisons from sales in 2010. "Apple grew much faster than the Windows notebook market did," he said. Baker said there's no evidence that this year's lesser back-to-school promotion, in which students and faculty receive an US$100 App Store gift card with the purchase of a new Mac, hampered sales. In years past, education buyers were given a free 8GB iPod touch. Read more at http://macte.ch/GGWJV .

We have already got a positive answer from Apple.” China Mobile’s homegrown third-generation TD-SCDMA network technology isn’t compatible with current iPhones. Still, China Mobile attracted 8.5 million iPhone users to its second-gen network, Wang said. Those users either accept slower Internet connections on the 2G network, or access the Web over the company’s Wi-Fi network, notes "Bloomberg." The carrier got regulatory approval in December for limited trials of the TD-LTE network, which the company has said it...

Apple number two globally when it comes to brand value
The Apple logo is now worth US$39.3 billion, according to a new report by Brand Finance, a London-based consulting company. Microsoft is down 9% to $39 billion. "Apple’s success can be attributed to its innovative design, loyal consumer base and well-executed marketing activities," says Brand Finance. "Naturally there is speculation about how the brand will be impacted by Steve Jobs recent resignation. However with a culture of innovation across the whole business, the brand is likely to continue to hold a strong position in the market."

Jobs' resignation having little impact on consumer...
The resignation of Steve Jobs as CEO of Apple is having little impact on the demand for Apple products, according to a new survey from ChangeWave Research (http://www.changewaveresearch.com). The Sept. 6-12 survey of 2,297 consumers shows only 4% say Jobs’ resignation makes them "less likely" to buy Apple products in the future, while 89% say it’s having "no effect" on their purchasing of Apple products. When asked a similar question during Steve Jobs first leave of absence back in 2008, nearly one-in-five respondents (18%) said they would be "less likely" to buy Apple products if Jobs stepped down. Since then ChangeWave has asked this question on several occasions, and over this time period the impact of Steve Jobs stepping down has clearly lessened in the minds of consumers. The results suggest that Jobs’ previous absences have had an "inoculating" effect that over time has allayed consumer concerns on whether the company could operate at the same level without Jobs at the helm. Two...
