AKVIS announces Pets Frame Pack for ArtSuite
AKVIS (www.akvis.com) has announced a new frame pack for AKVIS ArtSuite. The program allows users to decorate their photos with frames and effects. Extra frame packs can be installed to the program to increase its functionality. The new Pets Pack includes 60 frames targeted to animal lovers. You can frame photos of your pet with nature decorations, surround it by furry and feathered friends, by its favorite toys, food and treats. The frame packs can only be used in the AKVIS ArtSuite Standalone program (with Home Standalone, Home Deluxe, Business licenses). A frame pack can be added to ArtSuite by placing the archive into a folder specified in the program's preferences. AKVIS ArtSuite, with all its frame packs, runs on Mac OS X 10.6 and higher and Windows. It sells for US$69 (a demo is available for download); the price of the new frame pack is $15.

Apple plans March 9 special event
Apple has announced a special event for Monday, March 9. An invitation send to the press shows a picture of an invitation with the wording "spring forward." The event will almost certainly offer details on the upcoming Apple Watch, such as a precise release data and pricing. So far Apple has only said the smartwatch would be available in April with prices starting at US$350. It's also possible that the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina display could be announced. Apple will hold the special event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. iOS takes record-high profit share in smartphone operating...
According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanalytics.com), global smartphone operating profit reached US$21 billion in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2014. The Android operating system captured a record-low 11% global smartphone profit share during the quarter. In contrast, while Apple's iOS took a record-high 89% profit share. Global smartphone operating profit grew 31% annually from US$16.2 billion in Q4 2013 to US$21.2 billion in Q4 2014, notes the research group. "Apple iOS continues to tighten its grip on the smartphone industry," says Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics. PCI Geomatics implements support for KazEOSat-1
PCI Geomatics (www.pcigeomatics.com) has implemented support for KazEOSat-1, an Earth Observation satellite owned and operated by the Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS), a division of Kazcosmos. KazEOSat-1 is capable of producing imagery of up to 1-meter panchromatic and 4-meter multispectral. The satellite was launched from the European spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana in April of 2014, and reached operational readiness in July 2014. The sensor will produce imagery for the Kazakstan government to support decision making and policy in critical areas such as resource monitoring, resource management, land-use mapping, and environmental monitoring. iOS, Android have 96.3% of the smartphone operating system market
iOS and Android have inched closer to total domination of the worldwide smartphone market in both the fourth quarter (4Q14) and the calendar year 2014 (CY14). According to data from the IDC research group (www.idc.com), Android and iOS accounted for 96.3% of all smartphone shipments, up slightly from 95.6% in 4Q13 and from 93.8% in CY13. In terms of year-over-year shipment growth, Android outpaced the overall smartphone market for CY14 (32.0% vs 27.7%, respectively) while iOS beat the market in 4Q14 (46.1% vs 29.2%, respectively). "Many of the same drivers were in play for Android and iOS to tighten their grip on the market," says Ramon Llamas, research director with IDC's Mobile Phone team. "A combination of strong end-user demand, refreshed product portfolios, and the availability of low-cost devices – particularly for Android – drove volumes higher." Apple to invest €1.7 billion in new European data centers
Apple has announced a €1.7 billion plan to build and operate two data centers in Europe, each powered by 100% renewable energy. The facilities, located in County Galway, Ireland, and Denmark’s central Jutland, will power Apple’s online services including the iTunes Store, App Store, iMessage, Maps and Siri for customers across Europe. "We are grateful for Apple’s continued success in Europe and proud that our investment supports communities across the continent," said CEO Tim Cook in a press release. "This significant new investment represents Apple’s biggest project in Europe to date. Apple launches repair program for MacBook Pros with video issues
Apple has launched a MacBook Pro repair extension program for video issues. The company says it's determined that a "small percentage" of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts. Bits&Coffee has released PhotoVideoCollage 1.0 (http://photovideocollage.com/), a free Mac app that helps users create photo and video collages enhanced with music, and custom built for sharing on Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and YouTube.

 Users can add photos and videos, and mix the soundtracks with their favorite music. You start by selecting a layout template from a multitude of presets. AutoMailer for Mac OS X revved to version 2.2.2
Tension Software has announced AutoMailer 2.2.2, an update of its Mac OS X app that allows you to send personalized emails to multiple addresses, in text or web format, each merged with data from an internal database. It's been optimized for Mac OS X Yosemite. AutoMailer lets you prepare and  send an unlimited quantity of emails with a single click. Each email can have custom content depending on whom the recipient is. People receiving the emails won't notice any difference compared to standard emails and they will be able to reply to them as usual, according to the folks at Tension Software. Version 2.2.2 sports: a better diagnostic for missing server parameters; better error messages in log; and better selection of server port. It also has improved, clearer, connection type names. PSG launches Paragon Disk Wiper 15 for Mac OS X Free
Paragon Software Group (PSG) has launched Paragon Disk Wiper 15 for Mac OS X Free (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/dw-mac/). It's a utility to clean hard disks and SSDs or permanently erase critical data on separate partitions or entire hard disks. With Disk Wiper for Mac, wiping is not accomplished under Mac OS X, but from a special Linux-based flash stick that can be easily created from the program. After booting the Mac from this device, the Wipe Wizard can irreversibly remove confidential data in just a few easy steps, according to the folks at PSG. iWork for iCloud apps now available for Windows, Android users
Apple has made its iWork apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote — available to users of beyond Mac OS X and iOS apps. Yep, that means Windows and Android users. The apps are accessible to users without an Apple device through the iCloud Beta program. Anyone can sign up for an Apple ID to access Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for free. Each account comes with 1GB of complementary iCloud storage. Previously, you could only create an Apple ID login on a Mac, iPhone or iPad.
