CADintosh 8.0 for Mac OS X is rewritten in Cocoa, gets tweaked...
Lemke Software has released CADintosh 8.0, an update to its 2D CAD program for Mac OS X. Designed especially for technical draftsmen and designers, CADintosh includes a variety of tools to develop technical, mechanical, and architectural drawings. Completely rewritten in Cocoa, version 8.0 includes many enhanced and updated features including support of 64-bit, sandboxing (App Store version only) and complete Unicode support. Mac Mini Vault announces partnership with Watchman Monitoring
Mac Mini Vault (http://tinyurl.com/phc3xnq) has announced a partnership with Watchman Monitoring (http://tinyurl.com/6j93q25), a provider of Mac-based monitoring. This partnership will include integration of advanced and proactive monitoring for Mac Mini Vault customers. Beginning today, all Mac Mini Vault customers at the Enterprise service level will have free access to the Watchman Monitoring agent and monitoring results. The agent will monitor system details and watch for potential issues. The Watchman Monitoring agent is a small piece of software that detects physical and operational errors, reports system statistics and data points. It inspects system details, looking for potential issues with memory, disk, software, and backup systems.

RAIDON releases new external RAID storage device
RAIDON has released the GR3660-B3, a dual bay storage device with RAID 0 (Striping), RAID 1 (Mirroring), and JBOD three application modes and a USB3.0 interface. The GR3660-B3 has 8TB of storage capacity. It's compatible with all brands of 4TB SATA hard drives. You can install two 4TB hard drives under RAID 0 mode and the system will provide 8TB of access. Sesame2 is new keyfob, app to lock your Mac
Atama has released Sesame2, a Bluetooth Smart keyfob and companion application to lock your Mac or Windows PC. A second generation update of the original Sesame product, Sesame2 boasts an external redesign in addition to further enhancements such as longer battery life, shorter locking distance and increased Bluetooth signal stability. The device enables users to lock their computers whenever they walk away from the computer, preventing anyone else from accessing files, programs, the email client or anything else that might be open on the desktop. SecuritySpy for Mac OS X gets support for more cameras

iStat Menus for Mac OS X revved to version 1.2
Bjano has rolled out iStat Menus 5 (http://tinyurl.com/meyfoge), an update of its menubar-based system monitoring tool for Mac OS X. It has eight separate menu extras for monitoring CPU usage, memory, hard disks, networking, temperatures and more. Apple updates iTunes to version 11.3.1
Apple has released iTunes 11.3.1. It's a maintenance release that addresses a problem with podcast subscriptions. In Apple's words, iTunes 11.3.1 addresses a problem where subscribed podcasts may stop updating with new episodes and resolves an issue where iTunes may become unresponsive while browsing your podcast episodes in a list. Graphic Node launches new Set for iWork Plus
Graphic Node (http://www.graphicnode.com) has introduced Set for iWork Plus 1.0, a new collection of iWork templates designed to help OS X users make the best of Apple's iWork productivity applications. Softpress announces Freeway 7 with responsive web design
Softpress (www.softpress.com) has released Freeway 7 Pro, an update of its web design software, which now features responsive design for creating websites that automatically adapt to display for any device.   Now web designers can easily create sites that will adapt as needed to display for the correct devices, from phones and tablets, to laptops and more, says Joe Billings, managing editor at Softpress. Freeway 7 Pro also automatically generates navigation menu, sports improved search engine optimization and social network integration, and offers greater options for table designs. My Family Tree for Mac OS X grows to version 1.3

Graphic Converter for Mac OS X revved to version 9.3
Lemke Software has announced GraphicConverter 9.3, an update to its image utility for Mac OS X. The new version sports a number of new and updated features, and is a free update to all Version 9.x customers. GraphicConverter is an all-purpose, universal image editing program. Philips releases 28-inch 4K HD monitor
Available today, the new Philips 28-Inch 4K Ultra HD Display (http://tinyurl.com/mrlra6p), model 288P6LJEB, delivers four times as much detail as 1080p Full HD. Synology encourages users to update due to SynoLocker ransomware
Synology has been investigating and working with users affected by a recent ransomware called "SynoLocker." Synology has confirmed the ransomware affects Synology NAS servers running older versions of DiskStation Manager, by exploiting a vulnerability that was fixed in December 2013, at which time Synology released patched software and notified users to update via various channels. Affected users may encounter the following symptoms:   ° When attempting to log in to DSM, a screen appears informing users that data has been encrypted and a fee is required to unlock data. ° Abnormally high CPU usage or a running process called “synosync” (which can be checked at Main Menu > Resource Monitor). ° DSM 4.3-3810 or earlier; DSM 4.2-3236 or earlier; DSM 4.1-2851 or earlier; DSM 4.0-2257 or earlier is installed, but the system says no updates are available at Control Panel > DSM Update.   For users who have encountered the above symptoms, shutdown the system immediately to avoid more...

Addonics announces drive readers to prevent data tampering,...
Addonics Technologies (www.addonics.com) has announced the Sapphire family of Write-Protect readers that treat hard drive, SSD or flash media as READ only storage to protect against virus contamination or data tampering. There are two Sapphire Write-Protect readers — a 3.5”/2.5” HDD reader and a 2.5” HDD/Flash reader. Both are equipped with an interface bridge that disables the write function at the hardware level. This allows you to access data on the hard drive or flash media without the risk of accidentally erasing or altering content on the drive. The interface bridge is a permanent feature and can’t be disabled. It protects users from accidental or intentional erasing or destruction of data, according to Addonics President Bill Kwong. Apple, Samsung dropping all lawsuits outside the U.S.
Apple and Samsung, in a joint statement, say they've agreed to abandon all lawsuits against each other in countries outside the U.S., including Australia, Japan, South, Korea, Germany, Netherlands, the U.K., France and Italy, reports Bloomberg (www.bloomberg.com). In June the two companies agreed to drop their appeals of a patent-infringement case at the U.S. International Trade Commission that resulted in an import ban on some older Samsung phones. Apple and Google, which makes the Android mobile operating system that Samsung uses in many of its handsets, also announced a deal in May to drop lawsuits against one another related to Motorola Mobility. However, Apple and Samsung said in their joint statement that they aren’t ending the legal battles completely, nor have they reached any cross-licensing agreement, notes Bloomberg.

Sheep Systems releases three new apps that work with Safari
Mac users now have three new ways to manage bookmarks in their web browsers. Sheep Systems (sheepsystems.com) has announced three new apps: Smarky, Synkmark and Markster have been spun out of BookMacster, its master bookmarks manager app for the Mac. The three new apps are each focused on a particular use case. All are compatible with Apples iCloud, and correctly push changes to iOS devices when exporting to Safari. Adobe posts guide for moving from Aperture to Lightroom
Last month, Apple announced it would no longer develop Aperture, its software for professional and prosumer photographers. Adobe wants Aperture users to move to its own Lightroom software and has created a guide for those who are interested in transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom. SoftRAID (http://www.softraid.com) has released SoftRAID 5. The software replaces the functionality of Apple's RAID driver. With version 5, users can create RAID 4, RAID 5 and RAID 1+0 volumes. fScanX for Mac OS X adds support for more scanners
ESD (http://www.elevated-dev.com/) has announced fScanX 1.8.4 for Mac OS X, an update to their scanning application. It adds support for the Fujitsu fi-7160, fi-7260, fi-7180 &and fi-7280 document scanners. fScanX provides the ability to scan single or double-sided documents in color, grayscale or monochrome at up to 135 pages per minute. In addition, the package includes an Automator action for workflow development, and a command-line utility for complete scripted control of scanning functions. fScanX is licensed on a per-scanner basis: US$149-$1,999, depending on the model. AKVIS Chameleon 8.5 gets new Share feature, more
AKVIS has updated AKVIS Chameleon, its collage creation software, to version 8.5, which provides a new Share feature, compatibility with Photoshop CC 2014, and support for 64 bit. Taxonomy 2 for Mac OS X adds multiple file operation support,...
Vostok has launched Taxonomy 2, an update of the tool for file sorting on Mac OS X. The app allows sorting of folders and storing them in order. Version 2 contains number of new features like multiple files operations, undo, file renaming and more. File arrangement options allows the user to order files by name, type, size, creation and modification dates. The Grid preview helps to move or copy multiple files at a time. It shows file thumbnails and allows to choose thumbnail size and list. Also, now it's possible to undo actions. Apple reportedly rolls out its own content delivery system
Apple’s own CDN (content delivery network) has gone live in the U.S. and Europe, reports Seeking Alpha (http://tinyurl.com/ls3z3hg). The company is now delivering some of their own content such as new releases of Mac OS X and iOS directly to consumers. What's more, Apple has interconnect deals in place with multiple ISPs, including Comcast and others, and has paid to get direct access to their networks, says Seeking Alpha. As a result the company has more than 10x the capacity it had previously. “With Apple planning to release the beta version of their next desktop OS today, Yosemite (10.10), and with iOS 8 expected to come out this fall, Apple’s putting in place a lot of capacity to support upcoming software releases. Adobe announces Lightroom 5.6 and Camera Raw 8.6
Adobe has announced the availability of Lightroom 5.6 and Camera Raw 8.6 as final releases on both Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6. This release corrects issues reported in earlier versions of Lightroom 5 and Camera Raw 8. In addition, raw file format support is added for three new cameras: the Nikon D810, Panasonic LUMIX AG-GH4 and Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000.   Lightroom 5.6 is available as a free update for Lightroom 5 customers. Camera Raw 8.6 is available as a free update for both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6. Note that Camera Raw 8.6 for CS6 only includes updated camera and lens profile support as part of the recent camera raw policy change.

Connected Data launches Drobo Mini with SSD drives
Connected Data, the creator of the Drobo line of smart storage solutions, has launched its Drobo Mini with Solid State Disk (SSD) drives. The company says they deliver as much as 80% more performance compared to a Mini configured with traditional spinning hard drives. The Drobo Mini connects via Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 and features four 2.5-inch SSD drive bays with an mSATA accelerator option in a package that is rugged, compact and portable, weighing less than three pounds. Like all Drobo products, Drobo Mini protects data without user intervention, even in the event of multiple SSD drive failures. Total War: Shogun 2 coming to the Mac on July 31
Feral Interactive says the historical strategy game Total War: Shogun 2 for Mac will be released via Steam on July 31, with the Mac App Store version scheduled for release in early August. Developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA® for Windows, this is the latest installment in the Total War series to be brought to the Mac by Feral, following Rome, Empire and Napoleon. A premium version of the game will be released simultaneously and include all additional content. Total War: Shogun 2 Collection includes the Rise of the Samurai Campaign pack: a stand-alone campaign which challenges players to establish Japan’s first Shogunate 400 years before the events of the main game. It also includes the Dragon War Battle pack, three additional clans and two unit packs. All additional content will be available separately via Steam to customers who purchase the base game. Alfons Schmid has announced Mac OS X and Windows versions of Notebooks, a productivity app that combines text processing with task management and file organization. It includes text processing for plain text, formatted text and Markdown, provides space to store and organize files and documents, and also integrates complex task management. The desktop applications are designed to complement the iPad and iPhone versions of Notebooks. Notebooks 7 (for iPad and iPhone) costs US$12.99 and are available at the Apple App Store in the Productivity category. Parliant announces new Mac voice messaging product
Parliant has announced Echoes (http://www.echoes-app.com), a new Mac voice messaging product. It's different from Skype, FaceTime, and other voice chat applications because it eliminates "dialing" or setting up connections with your recipients. Echoes puts an icon in your menu bar where you just choose "Announce" (or press a keyboard shortcut), speak your announcement, and press return. Echoes lets you: ° Announce to other users running Echoes on your local network; ° Announce to everyone, groups of people you configure, or individuals; ° Reply to the sender of the last received announcement' ° Set keyboard shortcuts for sending and replying; ° Resend last sent announcement without re-recording it; ° Replay last received announcement in case you missed it. Echoes is available on the Mac App Store for US$9.99 for a limited time.
