WaterField rolls out Rough Rider messenger bag
WaterField Designs has given us the Rough Rider leather messenger bag, a throwback to the past with modern functionality. The Rough Rider's strap system compresses bag contents to maintain a slim, neat profile and it positions the bag snuggly against the body to help ease back fatigue, according to Gary Waterfield, CEO of WaterField Designs. It's constructed of naturally-tanned leather. A splash of nylon under the flap (in six color choices) allows for customization. The laptop bag main compartment can house a 13-inch laptop or tablet, along with files, chargers, and other necessities. There are two waxed canvas pockets in the main compartment and two additional scratch-free, lined pockets under the flap. The flap snaps shut with two options to adjust based on the bulk of what's inside. A removable no-slip shoulder pad keeps the adjustable strap in place. A leather handle sits at the top for a quick grab. The Rough Rider is priced at US$335. It's available for pre-order at...

Excel Software announces QuickLicenseRT Linux for Mac OS X
Excel Software has announced QuickLicenseRT Linux for desktop software. IT implements the full QuickLicense runtime system for protection, activation and license management.   A company can protect software from piracy and increase revenue by supporting a range of license types, activation processes and advanced licensing features. During development, QuickLicenseRT Linux is used in conjunction with QuickLicense running on a Mac OS X or Windows computer. The developer configures all aspects of the software license with QuickLicense and builds a tiny encrypted Ticket file. That Ticket file is bound to a Linux desktop application with a few lines of programming code that sends commands to the QuickLicenseRT executable. The runtime allows one software build to support Trial, Product, Subscription, Floating, Try/Buy or Educational licenses. The activation process for protected software allows manual activation without Internet access, semi-automated activation through a web browser or...

Creaceed releases iOS speech recognition SDK
Creaceed has released CeedVocal speech recognition SDK [software development kit] for iOS, supporting 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. It supports isolated words recognition from a list of up to 5,000 words, and keyword spotting. The SDK runs directly on the device, and is available in six languages to developers who want to design distinctive iPhone and iPad applications. As no training is required from the end user, speech recognition is ready to use as soon as the app is launched, according to the folks at Creaceed. iOS developers can get access to the trial version of CeedVocal SDK after signing an evaluation agreement. They can then purchase a license either for developing a single application, or for developing an unlimited number of applications. The licensing scheme includes neither annual subscription, nor royalties (even if CeedVocal SDK is integrated in a paid app). SecureMac discovers Apple Mac Trojan called OSX/CoinThief
SecureMac says it has discovered a new Trojan Horse called OSX/CoinThief.A, which targets Mac OS X and spies on web traffic to steal Bitcoins. This malware has been found in the wild, and there are multiple user reports of stolen Bitcoins. The malware, which comes disguised as an app to send and receive payments on Bitcoin Stealth Addresses, instead covertly monitors all web browsing traffic in order to steal login credentials for Bitcoin wallets. According to SecureMac, initial infection occurs when a user installs and runs an app called "StealthBit," which was recently available for download on GitHub, a website that acts as a repository for open source code. The source code to StealthBit was originally posted on GitHub, along with a precompiled copy of the app for download. The precompiled version of StealthBit did not match a copy generated from the source code, as it contained a malicious payload. Users who downloaded and ran the precompiled version of StealthBit instead ended...
