Boot Camp in 2013 Mac Pros doesn't support Windows 7
Apple's Mac Pro only supports installations of Windows 8 or later with Boot Camp, according to an updated Apple Support document that lists versions of Windows compatible with the 2013 Mac Pro. Boot Camp is software included with Mac OS X that lets you run compatible versions of Windows on an Intel-based Mac. Apple adds ACC Sports Channel to the Apple TV line-up
As noted by AppleInsider.com, Apple has added an ACC [Atlantic Coast Conference] Sports Channel to the Apple TV line-up. It offers game highlights and feature programming related to NCAA March Madness. The new channel features access to "Campus Insiders," a digital college sports network, as well as the ability to view "Most Recent" content, and a "Search" pane. Content can also be viewed based on schools in the conference, while a list of "Must See Moments" from the ACC are also available through the application.

Microsoft has announced OneNote for Mac
Microsoft has announced OneNote for Mac. It's the first Mac version of the tool to jot down your ideas, capture your collection of web clippings and research, plan your trips and events, check your to-dos and shopping lists and share your notes with friends and co-workers. OneNote for Mac is compatible with Mac OSX 10.9 and above. You can download it for free from the Mac App Store. You can also visit http://www.onenote.com to access all the different OneNote apps including a few OneNote services available that are designed to enhance your web capturing experience on OneNote for Mac. For example, along with a Mac version, Microsoft is releasing a OneNote clipper browser plug-in for Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer that allows users to save clippings from webpages. This feature is being extended to third-party apps via a new cloud API [application programming interface] that provides developers with the ability to integrate OneNote clipping into their apps.

Version 6.8.6 of Cocktail (Mountain Lion Edition) served up
Maintain has released Cocktail 6.8.5 (Mountain Lion Edition), the latest maintenance update for users running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Transcend releases memory modules for the new Mac Pro
Transcend Information, Inc. has launched 16GB and 32GB DDR3 Registered DIMM (RDIMM) modules aimed at maximizing memory in Apple's Mac Pro  2013 systems. With four user-upgradeable memory slots available, Transcend’s latest high-performance DDR3 RDIMMs can boost Mac Pro 2013 Intel  Xeon  E5 3.5GHz 6-Core, 3.0GHz 8-Core, and 2.7GHz 12-Core models to 64GB, 96GB, and even 128GB total memory capacity. Security researchers hack Safari and, well, all other browsers
Security researchers demonstrated zero-day exploits against Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Flash Player during the second day of the Pwn2Own hacking competition Thursday, racking up total prizes of $450,000, reports "PC World" (http://tinyurl.com/kvshedy). For Safari, the team used two different exploit vectors. One vulnerability was a heap overflow in WebKit that enabled arbitrary code execution. The team then used this opening to use another exploit to bypass the application sandbox and run code as if it was user privileged. A team from French vulnerability research firm Vupen hacked Google Chrome by exploiting a use-after-free vulnerability that affects both the WebKit and Blink rendering engines. The researchers then successfully bypassed Chrome’s sandbox protection to execute arbitrary code on the underlying system. It's due to ship March 31 and will be available in black and white. Titanfall may be coming to the Mac
Respawn Entertainment (www.respawn.com) may be bringing its Titanfall game to the Mac, reports "iMore" (http://tinyurl.com/mvc4xup). It's now available for Windows, the Xbox, and Xbox One. Titanfall is a first-person action gameplay centered on the dynamic between elite assault pilots and agile, heavily-armored, 24-foot titans. The action is varied, featuring parkour-style wall running, double jumps and the ability to hijack titans. United Airlines offers new personal device entertainment system
Starting this April, United Airlines is rolling out a new personal device entertainment system onboard select aircraft. With this new service, sponsored by the MileagePlus Explorer Card, you can choose from over 150 movies and nearly 200 TV shows and watch them free of charge on your personal device such as an iPhone or iPad. The free entertainment will be made available through the airlines' own iOS app, which can be downloaded for free.     Most planes will be equipped with the new system soon. United says it have it installed on most domestic aircraft by the end of 2014. The airline will begin on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and select 777-200 aircraft, followed by additional fleets. In the end, all United-operated flights will have some form of entertainment.

Petition launched to stop use of hazardous chemicals in making...
Green America, a D.C.-based non-profit group, and "The Nation" magazine launched a campaign Wednesday intended to persuade consumers to boycott Apple products unless the company makes changes in its production and supply chain operations, reports "PC World" (ttp://tinyurl.com/k9xua7g). You can find their petition at http://www.bad-apple.org. It protests the use of benzene and n-hexane in the production of iPhones. The petition says it would would cost just US$1 per smartphone for Apple to substitute out the chemicals. Green America and "The Nation" also wants the company to create a healthcare fund to pay for the care of workers who have fallen sick working on its products, allegedly due to poisoning from those two chemicals, and to generally improve working conditions.

Apple files appeals in patent trial judgement
Apple has filed a notice of cross-appeal in regards to the final judgement in the first Apple vs. Samsung patent trial held in California, according to "AppleInsider" (http://tinyurl.com/m2cpkoj). Its a response to California District Court Judge Lucy Koh's final judgment of 2012's Apple v. Samsung trial, which was handed down last week,.Apple is appealing all interlocutory orders and decisions having to do with the case. Apple's appeal applies to the Aug. 24, 2012 trial decision, Judge Koh's order on the retrial for vacated damages and the court's order denying a renewed motion for a permanent injunction against 23 Samsung devices, among other rulings.

Apple changes the iPhone return window from 30 days to 14 days
Apple has reduced the return window for the iPhone from 30 days to 14 days, as noted by "electronista" (http://tinyurl.com/nr9etxm). "For iPhone returns, you may return your undamaged iPhone with its included accessories within 14 days of purchase for a full refund," according to Apple. Samsung appeals California district court's judgement
Samsung has appealed a California district court's final judgment of the original Apple vs. Samsung patent trial and dropped declared standard-essential patents from a second upcoming case slated to begin at the end of the month, reports "FOSS Patents" (http://tinyurl.com/qx83tbf). The company is appealing presiding Judge Lucy Koh's ruling that awarded Apple $929 million as a result of Samsung's infringement of multiple patents. Florian Mueller of "FOSS Patents" says the ruling is now ripe for appeal after the conclusion of a November retrial over vacated damages due to juror error and a December appeal from Apple over a denied injunction against 23 Samsung devices. And "presumably it won't take long before Apple will also appeal the unfavorable parts of that ruling," he adds. This is all part of the ongoing, global legal battle. Apple releases firmware update for the Apple TV
Apple has posted a firmware update for the Apple TV. It allows users to hide some of the channels directly from the home screen. After updating, users can hide icons by holding the select button, causing icons on the screen to "jiggle." Once activated, users can press the play/pause button on their remote to bring up a menu that allows users to hide the icon. After a channel has been hidden, users can reactivate it through the Settings application. Before, it was only possible to change visible apps by blocking them through the Parental Controls menu. The new firmware can be downloaded via the Apple TV Software Update system.

Apple has released iOS 7.1, which adds, among other things, support for CarPlay, an automobile-oriented interface gives iDevice users a way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. An investigative report says Apple successfully avoided taxes on profits of $8 billion in Australia, reports the "Australian Financial Review" — as noted by "AppleInsider" (http://tinyurl.com/k5mwexv). According to the report, Apple Sales International, the Irish-based entity in charge of Apple's international tax dealings, has never filed financial returns with the Companies Registrations Office in Dublin. However, the company reported over $100 billion in profit over the last five years while paying less than 50 cents in tax on every $1,000 of income.

Washing Machine for Mac OS X updated with improved scan speed
Intego, a provider of security products and performance utilities built exclusively for Mac users, has released version 10.8.2 of Washing Machine 2014 for Mac OS X.  The new release has been updated to improve scan speed by ignoring Time Machine backups. It also includes an enhanced scanning user interface. Washing Machine 2014 seeks out and removes large, unneeded files, frees up hard disk space, speeds up the operating system, organizes the dock and desktop, and lets users create Smart Folders for quick access to frequently used files.

 IGG Software has released iBank 5.1, an upgrade to its money management program for Mac OS X 10.8 or higher. The app provides improved bank connectivity, enhanced reports, better bill pay, and superior transaction management among scores of new features and fixes. iBank 5.1 is available from the IGG online store (www.iggsoftware.com) for US$59.99 for new users. Apple's Peter Oppenheimer to retire at the end of September
Apple has announced that Peter Oppenheimer (pictured), Apple’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, will retire at the end of September. Luca Maestri, Apple’s vice president of finance and corporate controller, will succeed him as CFO reporting to CEO Tim Cook. Oppenheimer will transition the CFO role to Maestri in June and the balance of his responsibilities over the remaining time.
